What type of training and diet regime do you follow?
I alternate my training at different times of the year depending on my objective. I enjoy training one body part per work out - heavy, 5 days a week.
I sometimes alternate to two body parts per workout. Legs I always train on their own. I do abs and calves almost every workout. Stretching and massage is very important for me. It helps me recover physically and mentally.
With a comp on the horizon I gradually eliminate all luxuries like alcohol bread, sauces, sugar. I eat 5-6 measured meals a day and stick to foods like chicken, fish, eggs, lean red meat, turkey, vegetables, salads, oatmeal.
After a comp I eat everything I desire for about two weeks then get back into a balanced diet, similar to my comp diet but with all the luxuries and without having to weigh every meal.
We see in the 2008 NABBA Universe you placed 3rd [congrats!] and was representing Australia. How does that work? Have you ever competed in Australia at all? Do you hang out with the other Aussies at world events?
Even though I live in London, I am still an Australian citizen and feel proud to represent my country at these events. I started competing in 2006, 3 years after arriving to the UK. I have competed internationally but unfortunately never in Australia. When i do go back, its at Christmas. I train but Im also relaxing and spending time with my family. It is such a long journey back and I admire the Australian competitors who do travel long distances to compete aboard after having dieted for weeks. I met Karen Harding and Rick Brennan and some of the other Australian competitors at the WFF Universe in Germany 2007. There were many Australians at that show. At the NABBA Universe 2008 I was very happy to meet with Coral Moody, Sam Loannidis and Irene Nickole.
What took you over to the UK?
I came to London to visit friends and take a holiday. I ended up making a great network of contacts and after acquiring the necessary visas, I worked and got involved in a business thats been operating 4 years now. It wasnt easy and I worked very hard. Once this pressure eased, I shifted my focus to my training and competing.
What are your next contest plans?
For 2009 I have not yet decided on a competition. My recovery from the NABBA Universe in October 2008 was slow and had to address work and life outside of competing. I will train hard and look at improving my physique this year, assess my condition in 2009 and find a show that I think is suitable.
Any other Aussies competing over in the UK you know of?
Not that I know of, but if there are I would love to meet them.
