An eventful weekend for natural bodybuilding in Melbourne with two huge shows presented by the INBA yesterday and the ANB today. With 102 competitors lining up at the Latrobe University today, all credit must go to super promoter Maria McCarter for orchestrating such the event. The show itself ran overtime, however with MC Lindy Olson doing her best to pronounce some of the tougher names she kept everyone entertained.
A variety of experience and knowledge graced the front row, including Hardcore Aussie Muscle editor Craig Lucas with his wife Vicky, as well as Sydney-sider Mark ”Meataxe” Taylor and wife Jillian.
Michael Tabban and his team from Muscle and Bodyshape Gym in Richmond put forward an excellent team with Ally Johnston taking the Novice Figure, Lesley Maxwell winning the Masters Figure, Sarah Whitby claiming third in the Short Figure and Anita Nicolaou taking out the Tall Figure as well as the Figure Overall title for 2008, very impressive considering this is Anita’s first year of competition.
Some notable athletes of the day were a young up and comer that seems to have everything it takes to go a long way in this sport; junior short class winner Tristan Boyce who also won the ‘best legs’ overall and mixed it up in the overall at the conclusion of the night.
Local legend Jimmy Vousas comfortably won his under 70kg division with solid conditioning and separation throughout.
Walter Trinco returned this year and successfully defended his u/90kg title, however the night belonged to 2007 overall winner Martin Sifredi who once again claimed the u/80kg division and Overall Title. Martin looked great, very conditioned with no significant visible weaknesses which should see him compete successfully at the upcoming ANB Nationals.
